Grade 5 Science Experiment 3 - "How to Create Recycled Paper"

Purpose:
The purpose of this science fair project is to recycle paper using a chemical process. Recycled paper is created through a bleaching process. In this science fair project you will convert old newspapers into useable recycled white paper. Paper can be recycled because it consists of durable wood pulp.
Note: Adult supervision is required for this science fair project.
Hypothesis:
Paper can be recycled by breaking down the wood pulp of the paper and pressing it into new paper.
Variables:
Bleach versus no bleach in the paper - water mixture.
Materials Needed:
- Several old newspapers
- Small picture frame
- Large spaghetti pot
- Medium pot
- Plywood board
- Six rectangular felt pieces. (Each felt piece should be double the area of the small picture frame.)
- Small piece of screen
- Wooden spoon
- Thumbtacks
- Scissors
- Bleach
